This article describes how to sign up for the Algorand Community Governance Program with MyAlgo and earn ALGO staking rewards*. Check the Algorand wallet page to learn more.
Before you start
- Update Ledger Live through the notification banner or download the latest version.
- Update the firmware on your Ledger Nano S / Nano S Plus / Nano X.
Most importantly
- Being a governor requires active participation in voting decisions.
- Non-voting governors will not be able to collect ALGO staking reward at the end of a governance period.
- As such, it's strongly recommended to familiarize yourself with the duties of a governor before committing ALGOs. More on this here.
Ready? Let’s dive in.
Install the Algorand (ALGO) app on your Ledger device
- Connect and unlock your Ledger device.
- Open Ledger Live and navigate to My Ledger.
- If asked, allow access to My Ledger by pressing both buttons on your Ledger device simultaneously.
- In My Ledger, select the App catalog, search for Algorand (ALGO), and click Install.
You're done.
Sign up to the governance program
- Connect your Ledger Algorand (ALGO) account to MyAlgo by following these steps.
- Next, open your browser and navigate to the Governance website.
- On the website, make sure an active governance period is selected.
- Select Connect Wallet > My Algo Wallet then unlock MyAlgo with your password and click Connect.
- Select your Ledger account and click Connect.
- Select Use.
Your Ledger Algorand (ALGO) account connects to the Governance website. - Before you proceed to the next step, make sure your Ledger device is unlocked and the Algorand app is open on your device.
Your Ledger device displays: Algorand Ready. - Back to the website, select Commit ALGOs, choose how much ALGO you want to commit then click Commit Algos.
- Select Continue > Connect.
MyAlgo is now waiting for your to sign the transaction on your Ledger device.
Your Ledger device displays: Review Transaction. - On your Ledger device, use the right button to review the transaction. If all looks good, navigate to APPROVE and press both buttons simultaneously to sign the transaction.
A confirmation message will appear once the transaction is confirmed on the Algorand blockchain. - Click Close.
You're done.
