Manage ERC20 tokens

Fee Estimation issue when sending ERC20 Tokens and USDT

Fee estimation is unavailable when sending USDT and other ERC-20 tokens in Ledger Live (Mobile and Desktop). We're working on a fix. In the meantime, please use Rabby or MetaMask as an alternative.

You can manage all ERC20 tokens with your Ledger device. Many ERC20 tokens are supported in Ledger Live.

Add an Ethereum (ETH) account to Ledger Live

  1. On the left panel, click on Accounts.
  2. Click the Add account button.
  3. Type or click the drop-down list to select Ethereum (ETH). Click Continue.
  4. Connect and unlock your device, open the Ethereum app. Click Continue. Ledger Live will look for existing accounts in the blockchain. These are then displayed one by one.
  5. In the Accounts step, different sections can appear:
    • In the Select existing accounts section, the accounts shown already have blockchain transactions. Add a checkmark to the account(s) to add and choose a name for them.
    • In the Add new account section, you can add a new account by adding a checkmark. This is not possible when the last created Ethereum account has not received a transaction yet.
    • The Accounts already in Portfolio section lists the accounts that are already in Portfolio and thus can not be added.
  6. Click Continue. Your Ethereum account(s) will be added to the Portfolio.
  7. Click Add more to continue adding accounts. Otherwise, close the Add accounts window.

How to view your ERC20 token in Ledger Live

If you already have an Ethereum account with ERC20 tokens, you can view your tokens in Ledger Live.

  • On the Accounts page, click on Show tokens under the Ethereum account that holds the tokens.
  • You can hide token accounts with zero balance: Settings > Accounts > Hide empty token accounts.

Sending and Receiving ERC20 Tokens in Ledger Live

  • Sending ERC20 Tokens: To send ERC20 tokens from your Ethereum (ETH) account in Ledger Live, ensure you have ETH coins in the same account to cover the gas fees. Your parent Ethereum account must hold sufficient ETH to pay for the network fees associated with token transactions.
  • Receiving ERC20 Tokens: You can receive ERC20 tokens using your Ledger device and your Ethereum (ETH) account in Ledger Live. Begin by transferring ERC20 tokens from an exchange to your Ethereum account.
Remember, your tokens will only appear in Ledger Live after the token transaction has been confirmed on the Ethereum blockchain.
  • Important Note on Sending Tokens from Exchanges: When sending ERC20 tokens from an exchange, ensure you select the ERC20/ETH network type.
Using a different network type may result in your tokens not appearing in Ledger Live. Learn more about selecting the correct network here.

Receive ERC20 tokens to your Ledger account in Ledger Live

Using your Ledger device and your Ethereum (ETH) account in Ledger Live, you can receive ERC20 tokens. You can start by sending your ERC20 tokens to your Ethereum account from an exchange. Remember, your tokens will only appear after the token transaction has been confirmed on the Ethereum blockchain.

When you send ERC20 tokens from an exchange, make sure to select the ERC20/ETH network type. If you use another network type to send ERC20 tokens, your tokens will not appear in Ledger Live and you may risk losing them. More about the choice of the network here.

Managing ERC20 tokens not supported in Ledger Live

Try using Zerion in Ledger Live first
Zerion is a versatile portfolio manager designed for managing EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine) accounts, including networks like Ethereum (ETH), Polygon (MATIC), Arbitrum (ARB), Optimism (OP Mainnet), Base, Binance Smart Chain (BNB), and many others. With its EVM-centric approach, Zerion typically displays a broader range of ERC20 tokens compared to Ledger Live. You can access Zerion through the Discover section in Ledger Live. Once in Zerion, simply select the Ethereum network and navigate to the 'Tokens' section to view the tokens held in your Ledger account.
Token not visible in Zerion? Try Metamask
Connect your Ledger device to Metamask by following the step-by-step instructions provided here. By connecting correctly, you can manage your tokens in MetaMask while still keeping them secure with Ledger. MetaMask does not detect all tokens in your account automatically. To add a new token to MetaMask:
  1. Verify that MetaMask is connected to the Ethereum (ETH). Learn more.
  2. If needed, connect to the correct network by using Chainlist.
  3. Finally, add your token to MetaMask by following these instructions.
