Step 1. Get started
  1. Start the Ledger Live application.
  2. On the welcome screen, click on Get started.
  3. Choose your device, then click Select.

  4. Choose how to set up your device:
    • First time using your device? Choose Set up a new device to generate new private keys and to create new accounts.

    • If your device is already fully set up with a recovery phrase, choose Connect your device and then proceed to Step 3. Security checklist.

Please note: The Ledger Nano X can only connect to the Ledger Live desktop app via USB.

    • Have an existing recovery phrase and want to restore it on a new Nano device? Scroll down and select Restore your recovery phrase on a new device to regain access to your existing accounts using your 24-word recovery phrase, also known as a mnemonic seed.

    • If you're already a Ledger Recover subscriber and wish to restore your device, select Restore using Ledger Recover.
Step 2. Set up your device

First, you'll choose a 4 to 8-digit PIN code that unlocks your device. Then you'll save or restore your 24-word recovery phrase. Your recovery phrase backs up the private keys that manage your crypto assets. It can be used to restore access to your crypto assets in case you lose access to your device.

  1. Set up your device by following the steps provided in Ledger Live:
  2. Once your Ledger hardware wallet is ready, click on Continue in Ledger Live.
Step 3. Security checklist

Complete the security checklist to verify that you benefit from the optimal level of security.

  1. Click on Check my Nano, to verify that your device is a genuine Ledger device. Only a genuine Ledger device can provide the cryptographic proof required to connect with Ledger’s secure server.

This process might take a few moments.
  2. Allow Ledger Live to access your Ledger device by pressing both buttons on your Ledger device simultaneously.
  3. Click on Continue once you see: All Good! Your Ledger device is genuine and ready to use with Ledger Live.
  4. Ledger Recover is an optional, ID-based key recovery service that provides a backup for your Secret Recovery Phrase.

To enroll, choose Start your free trial.
Already a subscriber? Select Sign in.
To skip the subscription, click the "X" to close out the window, and proceed with Ledger Live setup.

Step 4. Choose a password (optional)

Choose an optional password that unlocks the application to enhance your privacy. You should set a password if others have access to your computer.

Explore our guide for assistance in setting up a password within Ledger Live.

Make sure to remember your password. Losing it requires resetting Ledger Live and re-adding your accounts. This does not affect your crypto assets.

Step 5. Bug reports & analytics

Besides mandatory technical data, you can choose which anonymous data to share with Ledger to help improve the quality of our products and services. By opting in, Ledger will automatically collect this data. You can decide to opt-out at any time in the application settings.

  1. Click on  Settings.

  2. While in the General tab, scroll down to Bug Reports and Analytics.
  3. Toggle   which optional data to share:
    • Analytics: Enable analytics of usage data to help Ledger improve the user experience.
    • Bug reports: Send automatic bug reports when the application crashes to help improve its stability.

To set up another device, restart the Device setup process from the Help tab in the settings.
