Maximum spendable amount

The maximum spendable amount is the total balance in an account that is available to send in a transaction. This amount is calculated differently for each crypto asset. Choose your coin below to learn more.

Algorand (ALGO)

The total balance includes your balance and potential rewards.

The maximum spendable amount of an Algorand account is the total balance excluding:

  • Network fees, which are calculated automatically.
  • A minimum reserve requirement of 0.1 ALGO, as determined by the Algorand protocol.
  • If you have opted-in ASA, you need to add to the minimum reserve requirement the number of opted-in ASA multiplied by 0.1 ALGO.

  If you have opted-in ASA which aren’t managed in Ledger Live, they don’t appear in Ledger Live but they are still considered in the calculation of the maximum spendable amount.

Bitcoin (BTC) and Bitcoin-based* coins

The maximum spendable amount of a Bitcoin account is the balance excluding:

  • Coins in pending transactions that are waiting for network confirmations.
  • Network fees (transaction data size x fee rate). If you increase the fee rate for faster transaction confirmation, the maximum spendable amount will be slightly lower.

Ethereum (ETH)

The maximum spendable amount of an Ethereum account is the balance excluding:

  • Coins in pending transactions that are waiting for network confirmations.
  • Network fees (gas limit x gas price). If you change the gas limit or gas price, the maximum spendable amount will be adjusted accordingly.
Polkadot (DOT)

The maximum spendable amount of a Polkadot account is the total balance minus:

  • Network fees, which are calculated automatically.
  • A minimum reserve requirement of 1 DOT, as determined by the Polkadot protocol.

Note that the total balance includes all the balances in your account such as the available balance, the bonded balance, the unbonding balance, and the unbonded balance. 

To completely empty your account, you can use the third-party wallet Polkadot.js with your Ledger device.

Stellar (XLM)

The maximum spendable amount of a Stellar account is the balance excluding:

  • Network fees, which are calculated automatically.
  • A minimum reserve requirement of 1 XLM for most accounts as determined by the XLM protocol. You can think of this as a one-time fee that is paid at the opening of the account. Learn more
Tezos (XTZ)

The maximum spendable amount of a Tezos account is the balance excluding:

  • Network fees, which are calculated automatically.
  • An account creation fee of 0.257 XTZ if you are sending coins to a new account.

If an account is delegated, it is recommended to undelegate it before sending the entire balance.

Tron (TRX)

The maximum spendable amount of a Tron account is the balance excluding:

  • Frozen coins, which take 3 days to become spendable after you've unfrozen them.
  • An account creation fee of 0.1 TRX if you are sending to a new account and you have less than 5000 Bandwidth points.
  • Network fees if you do not have enough Bandwidth points.
XRP (XRP)

The maximum spendable amount of an XRP account is the balance excluding:

  • Network fees, which are calculated automatically.
  • A minimum reserve requirement of 10 XRP, as determined by the XRP protocol. You can think of this as a one-time fee that is paid at the opening of the account. Learn more
